Corbevax Vaccine Gets Approved For Use in India

The Texas Children’s Hospital (TCH) and Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) announced that “Corbevax”, a protein subunit. The Covid-19 vaccine has got approval from the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) to launch in India. TCH said the vaccine has been in its phase three clinical trials with over 3,000 subjects and was found to be safe. The trials showed good immune against the omicron variant as well as the delta variant.


The vaccine uses a recombinant protein yeast fermentation technology known for 40 years. The vaccine can be made locally worldwide, and the technology can be transferred to our Texas Children’s vaccine to producers in India, Indonesia, Bangladesh, and Botswana.


Tweeting about the announcement, Dr Hotez said that BioE has 150 million doses ready and will be making 100 million per month. “We transferred our vaccine and its co-development with no patent and no strings attached. As a result, it should be the least expensive Covid-19 vaccine available yet,” Hotez added.
