Covid-19 Infections Hit 1 Million in Australia

Australia exceeded 1 million Covid-19 cases due to the Omicron variant and the rising hospitalisation. New South Wales and Victoria also reported nearly 55,000 new cases, and the total Covid-19 infections in Australia touched 1.03 million since the first case was recorded almost two years ago.

Two thousand three hundred eighty-seven deaths have been reported so far, but the death rate during the Omicron wave has been lower than the previous covid outbreaks. Around 92 per cent of people are vaccinated, and the booster programme has also picked pace. The increasing hospitalisation numbers forced the Australian government to restrict states. Authorities have revised compulsory isolation rules for close contacts and are still reviewing the rules for furloughing workers that have broadened supply chain gaps.
