Creative Galileo Raises $7.5 Million at $40 Million Valuation

Edtech platform for kids Creative Galileo has raised $7.5 million, or about Rs 60 crore, in a funding round from several investors, including Kalaari Capital, the company said on Thursday. Affirma Capital, East Ventures, Valiant Employee Investment Fund and angel investors also participated in the Series A round.

This brings Creative Galileo’s total funding to $10 million, including a $2.5 million pre-series round last July. Creative Galileo founder Prerna A Jhunjhunwala said the company had raised fresh funding at a valuation of $40 million, more than triple the $12.5 million it was valued at last July.

Founded in July 2020, the company claims to have over 7 million downloads. It will use fresh infusions to scale up, speed up team recruitment across regions, introduce regional languages and further strengthen the platform’s R&D. “Subscriber acquisition costs for more edtech companies are very high, but it’s still Rs 1.5 for us, so our growth is very organic. We now have enough money in the bank to focus on regionalising our product and making it available in regional languages,” Jhunjhunwala said.

She said the edtech company would launch new products to make children’s learning journeys more personal. Creative Galileo is a role-based early learning platform for children ages 3-10.

The company plans to grow its team from 30 to more than 60 people within a year. “We plan to launch in Southeast Asia. Our next target markets are Indonesia and Vietnam. We do business mainly in India, but 10% of our audience is from foreign markets as well as the US, Middle East and Singapore. We have already started in Korea with EBS Korea,” Jhunjhunwala said.

The company uses well-known local superhero cartoon characters and signs their content with EBS Korea. “We also registered more Korean and Japanese characters because they are widely used in Southeast Asia,” Jhunjhunwala said.

In India, in addition to Hindi, the company plans to start offering content in Marathi, Tamil and Telugu within six months. “Creative Galileo has seen strong growth over the past six months with low marketing spend. Creative Galileo also consistently ranks among the top 20 educational apps on the Play Store in India, the only early learning app to receive this honour.

It’s a testament to the founder’s relentless focus and strong execution,” said Vani Kola, MD of Kalaari Capital. “Creative Galileo has seen strong growth over the past six months with low marketing spend.
