Cyclone Montha has left a trail of destruction across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, causing widespread damage to infrastructure, crops, and livelihoods. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said on 31st October that the state’s losses have been estimated at Rs 5,265 crore so far.

Naidu said Roads and Buildings suffered the highest damage at Rs 2,079 crore, followed by fisheries (Rs 1,270 crore), agriculture (Rs 829 crore), and horticulture (Rs 40 crore). Other sectors affected include water resources, municipal administration, and panchayat services. A detailed report will be sent to the Centre soon, he added.

The Chief Minister credited early preparedness and technology for minimising casualties. Over 600 drones were used to monitor flood levels. Meanwhile, the Mana Mitra app and geo-tagged data helped coordinate relief efforts. Nearly one crore alert messages were sent to residents as major reservoirs reached 90% capacity.

Energy Minister G Ravi Kumar said the cyclone damaged nearly 13,000 electric poles, 3,000 transformers, and 3,000 km of power lines. However, restoration teams restored power to most areas within 24 hours. They expect rural feeders to be back online within 2 days.

In Telangana, Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao said crops across 4.47 lakh acres in 12 districts were affected, impacting 2.53 lakh farmers. Warangal, Khammam, and Nalgonda were among the worst-hit. There were extensive losses to paddy and cotton crops.

Cyclone Montha made landfall near Antarvedi in Konaseema district. It unleashed heavy rainfall and flooding in low-lying coastal areas, including Nellore, Bapatla, and Prakasam. Relief work continues as both states assess the full extent of the damage.
