DAC Clears Rs 79,000 Crore Defence Procurement Plan

The move aligns with India’s push for self-reliance in defence manufacturing.

India has taken another major step toward strengthening its defence capabilities. The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, has approved a series of procurement proposals worth Rs 79,000 crore for the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

For the Army, the green light includes the Nag Missile System (Tracked) Mk-II, Ground-Based Mobile ELINT System, and High Mobility Vehicles with cranes. These systems will boost the Army’s ability to destroy enemy tanks and bunkers. Additionally, they will enhance electronic intelligence and improve logistics across difficult terrains.

The Navy will acquire Landing Platform Docks, 30mm Naval Surface Guns, advanced lightweight torpedoes, infrared tracking systems, and smart ammunition. These additions will enhance India’s amphibious and coastal defence capabilities while supporting peacekeeping and disaster relief missions.

For the Air Force, approval was granted for a new Collaborative Long Range Target Saturation/Destruction System. This system is capable of autonomous operations, including takeoff, navigation, and payload delivery.

The move aligns with India’s push for self-reliance in defence manufacturing. It also supports the broader goal of modernising the armed forces with indigenous technology.
