Daimler India Commercial Vehicles Private Limited (DICV) said on Thursday that it aims to achieve 100% carbon-free operations at its manufacturing plant in Oragadam, Tamilnadu, by 2025.
The company that makes Bharat Benz trucks and buses also said it had set a goal of being 100% paperless by the end of 2023. Satyakam Arya, MD and CEO of DICV, said the company had achieved sustainable growth in its domestic and export businesses.
“Several key goals for the next decade are to be 100% carbon neutral in our operations by 2025, to be 100% paperless by the end of 2023, to increase energy self-reliance, and to focus more on global diversity and Culture. Workplace,” he said in a statement.
As part of its sustainable business plan, the company said it currently generates 85% of its energy from renewable sources. It is already harnessing solar power at its manufacturing facility in Oragadam. It has laid the groundwork for an additional 1.3 MW solar PV plant on a world-class test track at its 430-acre facility.

Existing solar power plants already have a capacity of 3.3 MW. The company further states that it has achieved 100% water recycling and does not rely on external water sources for its manufacturing. DICV has invested over Rs 9,500 crore in its manufacturing plant in Oragadam, near Chennai. The facility also houses an indigenous R&D centre to meet its global demand for Indian and Daimler trucks.
