Defence Ministry to Sign Rs 10,200 Crore Pinaka Rocket Systems Deal

On 1st February, India allocated Rs 6.81 lakh crore for defence in 2025-26.

The Defence Ministry is set to sign a Rs 10,200 crore contract for Pinaka rocket systems ammunition today.

The Cabinet Committee on Security recently cleared the Indian Army’s proposal to procure ammunition, including Area Denial Munitions. 

The contracts include a Rs 5,700 crore deal for high-explosive pre-fragmented ammunition and a 4,500 crore deal for area denial munitions.

Developed by DRDO, the Pinaka rocket system has a range of up to 75 km, with plans to extend it to 120 km and eventually 300 km. 

The Army currently operates four Pinaka regiments, with some launchers deployed along the northern borders with China.

On 1st February, India allocated Rs 6.81 lakh crore for defence in 2025-26, up from Rs 6.22 lakh crore in the current fiscal. 

Rs 1.80 lakh crore from the budget has been earmarked for capital expenditure, focusing on new weapons, aircraft, and warships, marking a 9.53% increase over the previous year’s allocation.
