Delhi Govt: ‘No PUC, No Fuel’ Rule to Stay After GRAP-IV

Inspections found faulty equipment at 12 PUC centres, triggering a crackdown.

Even as GRAP-IV restrictions are lifted, Delhi’s fight against air pollution is far from over. The city government has made it clear that the ‘No PUC, No Fuel’ rule will remain in place, keeping pressure on polluting vehicles.

Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said it will remain mandatory for all vehicles in Delhi to carry a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate. He added that cars without one will not be allowed on the roads.

Crackdowns on PUC centres have already begun. Inspections found faulty equipment at 12 centres. These centres have been suspended and issued notices. The government is warning of strict action for any violations.

Beyond enforcement, the Delhi government is also stepping up long-term measures. It has proposed allocating Rs 100 crore to rejuvenate water bodies, with nearly 1,000 identified for restoration.

To strengthen monitoring, the government has approved four new vehicle emission testing centres. Additionally, the establishment of additional commercial vehicle testing facilities has been allowed.

The announcement comes as Delhi and the NCR continue to battle severe air pollution. The city recorded an AQI of 414 on Tuesday, which is ‘severe’.
