USFDA issued Form 483 with 3 observations to Dr. Reddy’s after inspecting its FTO-9 Visakhapatnam plant on Oct 8–9.
The US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) ran a pre-approval inspection, the kind regulators carry out before clearing a new medicine made at a plant.
The visit took place at the FTO-9 facility in Andhra Pradesh. The company told exchanges about the outcome in a filing dated 14 October.
A Form 483 is a list of things an inspector wants fixed. It is not a fine or a ban. It gives the company a chance to respond to each point.
Dr. Reddy’s said it will address the observations within the stipulated timeline. Companies usually reply with a written plan to correct each point.
The filing did not say what the inspectors found, so the three points remain unknown.
The US is one of the biggest markets for Indian drugmakers, so plants need to keep passing these checks to keep shipping there.
Sources, describes FTO-9 as a critical part of the company’s manufacturing network. Dr. Reddy’s, which makes generic medicines and drug ingredients, is listed on the NSE, BSE and the New York Stock Exchange.
FTO-9 is not the only plant to draw attention lately. Sources, citing company filings, reported that the USFDA flagged two observations at the FTO-11 plant in Pydibhimavaram after a visit from 5 to 7 October.
An inspection at the FTO-SEZ Process Unit-02 in Srikakulam in July ended with three observations, and a pre-licence inspection at the Bachupally biologics facility in June produced seven.
This is a regulatory update, not a financial one. Neither the filing summary nor the reports on it mention any cost, revenue or product launch linked to the plant.
The next step is the company’s written reply. The filing gave no date beyond the stipulated timeline.
