Droupadi Murmu Becomes 15th President of India by Getting 64% Votes, First Tribal Women to Grab the Throne

“The most alluring thing a woman can have is Confidence’’, says Beyonce. DroupadiMurmu was born in 1958 in a Santali Tribal Family in Rairangpur in Mayurbhanj district in Odisha. The legacy of becoming the supreme personality has continued since ancient times. Her father and grandfather were the Sarpanch in their respective times under the Panchayati Raj system. She graduated with a Bachelor in Arts from Rama Devi Women’s College, Bhubaneswar, Odisha. Suffering from bad times, she lost her husband, two sons, mother, and a brother in a span of 7 years, i.e. 2009 to 2015. 

Murmu began to teach as a school teacher before entering state politics, working as an assistant professor at the Shri Aurobindo Integral Education and Research Institute, Rairangpur, and the irrigation department Government of Odisha. She connects herself with the Brahma Kumaris. 

First Step In Politics

DroupadiMurmu is a Tribal leader from Rairangpur and joined the BharatiyaJanata Party (BJP) in 1997, electing as the Councilor of the Rairangpur Nagar Panchayat. She became the Chairperson of Rairangpur Nagar Panchayat in 2000 and later served as the Vice-president of BJP Scheduled Tribes Morcha. During the BJP and BIJU Janata Dal coalition Government of Odisha, she became the Minister of State with independent charges for Commerce and Transportation for two years and Fisheries and Animal Resources Development for four years. 

From Governor Of Jharkhand To President Of India

Murmu took an oath as the Governor of Jharkhand on May 18, 2015, recording the First woman Governor of Jharkhand. She served from 2015 to 2021 as the Governor of Jharkhand. In June 2022, Murmu was nominated as the National Democratic Alliance’s candidate for the Presidential Elections by the BharatiyaJanata Party and elected as the President on July 21 2022, by winning 64% votes in 21 of the 28 states and Union Territories, including Pondicherry against the opposition leader Yashwant Sinha. She is considered the only woman to become the 15th President after Former President PratibhaPatil. She will take an oath of office in the Central Hall of Parliament by the Chief Justice of India, NV Ramana, on July 25 2022. Former President Ram NathKovind will end his Duty on July 24 2022. DroupadiMurmu, in 2007, received the Nilkantha Award for the best MLA (Member of Legislative Assembly) by Odisha Legislative Assembly. Before the results were announced, Prime Minister NarendraModi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh visited Murmu’s Delhi residence to congratulate her.
