E-Way Bills Clock 64.1 Million in July

Over 64.1 million e-way bills were generated in July, indicating a speedy comeback in business activity. According to data from the goods and services tax network (GSTN), e-way accounts registered 17.4 per cent higher in July than June. E-way bills are required to transport goods of over Rs 50,000 in value. In July, 24.8 million for interstate and 39.2 million for intrastate transportation of goods are the second-highest in a year since June 2020.

Experts said that increasing e-way bill generation would also lead to better GST collections during August, reported in September. E-way bills provide a direct relationship to purchases and transactions, and hence demand and consumption in the economy.

“With steady production of the e-way bill, rise in vaccination, slowly coming out of Covid restrictions, data analytics in place, and GST rate rationalisation on cards, we may see speedup in revenue from GST in coming months,” said Aditya Singhania, partner at Singhania’s GST Consultancy Co. GST collections for July increased to Rs 1.16 lakh crore from Rs 92,849 crore in June.
