FIFA Suspends All India Football Federation, U17 Women’s World Cup Hosting Rights in Jeopardy

On Tuesday, the Bureau of the FIFA Council decided to suspend the All India Football Federation (AIFF) immediately. Reportedly, AIFF has been suspended due to undue influence from third parties, tantamount to a serious violation of the FIFA Statutes. The governing body has stripped the country of the right to host the Under-17 Women’s World Cup. It was scheduled to take place in India from 11 to 30 October 2022.

This is the first FIFA banned the All India Football Federation (AIFF) in 85 years. FIFA is looking at the next steps concerning the tournament and will forward the matter to the Bureau of the Council. FIFA is in contact with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in India. Hopefully, a positive outcome to the case may be achieved.
Until then, a committee of administrators will be set up to assume the powers of the AIFF Executive Committee. The AIFF administration will regain full control of its powers when the suspension is lifted.

Earlier in May, the Supreme Court ousted Praful Patel as AIFF president due to his inability to hold elections in December 2020. To manage the affairs of the AIFF, it appointed a three-member Committee of Administrators (CoA), headed by former top court judge AR Dave.
