Flipkart Key Driver of 13% Spike in Walmart’s Int’l Revenue

Walmart’s international net sales hiked 13.3% YoY at $26.8 billion in the constant currency by Flipkart, the company mentions in Q3 FY23 results. The Walmart management added that Flipkart’s Big Billion Sale for early timing from Q4 in 2021 to Q3 in 2022 benefited the company.

Doug McMillan, President and CEO of Walmart, mentioned Flipkart’s robust performance, with one billion consumer visits at the time of the eight-day Big Billion Sale. “What is important is that 60% of these consumers came from tier-2 and 3 cities,” he added.

He mentioned Phonepe’s performance which performed excellently with 10 billion transactions completed for the first time.

The company started its advertisement business, seeing good traction from Flipkart advertisements. Global ad business grew over 30%, led by 40% at Walmart Connect in US and strength in Flipkart Advertisement. 

Globally, Walmart’s revenue touched $152.8 billion, up 9.8% in the constant currency. The company raised its Q4 outlook. The company also said customers focus on the value buys.
