Food Delivery Startup Magicpin Orders Double on World Cup Fever

The company had crossed the 1 million food delivery mark for the entire duration of the World Cup.

Hyperlocal startup Magicpin announced that its food delivery orders surged more than two-fold to over 1 million during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 match on the government-backed ONDC (Open Network for Digital Commerce) compared to its monthly average.

The company said that it had delivered 35,000 food orders during the India versus Pakistan match on 14 October, and its daily single-day orders peaked at 50,000 during the India versus Australia Final match.

The company had crossed the 1 million food delivery mark for the entire duration of the World Cup between 5 October and 19 November. The number of orders soared beyond expectations as ONDC’s demand grew on Magicpin’s own buyer app and through other large buyer apps like Phonepe, Paytm, and Ola.

The company had initially announced discounts worth Rs 50-100 crore at the beginning of the World Cup to cricket fans on food delivery and other categories such as fashion, grocery, and dining out, making this event a fest for the fans.

Anshoo Sharma, CEO and Co-Founder of Magicpin, said, “I’m incredibly proud to have witnessed the record-breaking number of 10 lakh orders on Magicpin under the ONDC umbrella this past month and half. This milestone reflects our collaboration with the ONDC team and the combined relentless efforts to provide the best local discovery and rewards platform for the cricket lovers and Indians celebrating Diwali, other festivals.”

In June, the company had crossed 30,000 orders a day before the World Cup and had recorded an average monthly order of around 400,000.

Anshoo Sharma said, “This milestone is a result of the scale of the Magicpin’s food delivery business, which is also witnessing 2 times growth month-on-month.”
