Fortis Healthcare shares touched a day high of Rs 761 on Thursday, after the company bought Bengaluru’s Suguna Hospital for Rs 277 crore.

Fortis Healthcare Limited told exchanges on Wednesday evening that the deal was complete.

Its wholly owned arm, International Hospital Limited, paid about Rs 277 crore in cash. The purchase has two parts.

Fortis took over the hospital’s business and operations from Suguna Ramaiah Hospitals Private Limited.

It also bought the land and building from Dr Ramaiah Ravindra, one of the hospital’s promoters.

No shares changed hands, and the deal is not a related-party transaction. Fortis also said no regulatory approvals were needed.

Suguna Hospital opened in 2006 on Dr Rajkumar Road in Rajajinagar. It has 110 beds and room for about 40 more, on roughly one acre of land.

It earned revenue of about Rs 49.8 crore in the year ended 31 March 2026. Fortis wants to grow in Bengaluru one cluster at a time.

With Suguna, it counts about 500 potential beds across its Rajajinagar hospital, People Tree Hospital in Yeshwanthpur and the new purchase.

Across the city, it has about 1,000 operational beds. Managing Director and CEO Dr Ashutosh Raghuvanshi called the area an ‘underserved catchment’.

Fortis plans to upgrade facilities, expand treatment programmes and add beds at Suguna. The deal follows a solid June quarter.

On 6 August, Fortis reported consolidated revenue of Rs 2,545 crore, up 17.5% from a year earlier, while consolidated net profit edged up 2.3% to Rs 273 crore.

On Thursday, Fortis closed at Rs 754.90 on the NSE, down Rs 4.60 or 0.61% from the previous close of Rs 759.50.
