Global M&A Activity Hits All-Time $5 Trillion

Global merger and acquisition (M&A) activity smashed records in 2021. The value of M&A boosted to $5 trillion for the first time, with volumes increasing 63 per cent to $5.63 trillion by December 16, according to Dealogic data.
Technology and healthcare have the most significant share of the M&A market driven by demand from the last year when the speed of M&A activity dropped to a three-year low due to the global financial fallout due to the pandemic.

Companies hurried to raise funds from stock or bond offerings, big firms took advantage of the booming equity markets to utilise their stock as purchasing currency, and financial sponsors plunged on publicly listed companies.
Overall deal volumes in the United States doubled to $2.61 trillion in 2021, according to Dealogic. Dealmaking in Europe raised 47 per cent to $1.26 trillion, and the Asia Pacific markets grew 37 per cent to $1.27 trillion.
