Government may Introduce Financial Bids for Shipping Corporation Sale in March Quarter

The government received multiple bids for privatising the Shipping Corporation of India in March 2021.

By March, the government may call financial bidding to privatise the State-own Shipping Corporation of India (SCI).
An official of PTI said that the demerging of SCI’s non-core and land assets is in the advanced stage, and the process might be getting discontinued in three months as the government would be inviting financial bids.

In May, the Board of Shipping Corp approved a demerger Scheme. to hive off the non-core assets owned by SCI to Shipping Corporation of India Land and Assets LTD, MTI (Maritime Training Institute), including Shipping House, to complete the demerge of all the non-core assets to the newly made company SCILLA.

The government received multiple bids for privatising the Shipping Corporation of India in March 2021. However, the process of demerging got delayed; according to the Balance Sheet of SCI, the non-core asset held for demerging values at Rs. 2,392 Crores by March 31, 2022.

In December 2022, The Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM), Invited expressions of interest (EoI) for strategic disinvestment of its entire stake of 63.75 per cent in Shipping Corp of India, along with the transfer of management. The Cabinet, in November 2020, had given in-principle approval for the strategic divestment of Shipping Corp.

In December 2020, DIPAM invited EOI to disinvest its entire stake of 63.76% in Shipping Corp of India. Along with the transfer of management. The Cabinet gave in-principle approval for strategic divestment of shipping of crops in November 2020. The government has budgeted the amount of RS 65000 crore from CSE disinvestment in the ongoing 2020-23 Fiscal. Till now, an amount of Rs 24,544 has accumulated through CPSE disinvestment.
