Grasim and Suzlon Sign Pact for Recyclable Wind Blades

Grasim Industries and Aditya Birla Renewables have signed an MoU with Suzlon Energy to develop wind turbines

Grasim Industries & Aditya Birla Renewables tied up with Suzlon Energy to develop recyclable wind turbine blades under a new MoU.

The three firms signed it at the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit & Expo 2026. The goal is simple: blades that do not get dumped.

Most blades today are made from thermoset composites, a tough material that is very hard to recycle. Many end up in landfills or are burned.

Grasim’s Recyclamine technology works differently, because blades made with this epoxy can be broken down chemically at the end of their life, which lets companies recover valuable material and use it again.

Each partner has a clear job. Suzlon, the turbine maker, will use Grasim’s Recyclamine epoxy when it builds the blades.

ABRen will install one turbine fitted with these blades at one of its project sites to show the idea works in real conditions, and the three firms will also look at wider sales in India and other markets they agree on.

Leaders from all three companies backed the move. Rajesh Balakrishnan, CEO of Advanced Materials at Grasim, called it an important step towards a truly circular wind energy ecosystem.

Girish Tanti, co-founder of the Suzlon Group, said the company aims to make all future turbines recyclable within three to four years.

Amit Jain, CEO of ABRen, said the tie-up helps tackle what happens to blades when they retire. This is not Grasim’s first move in recycling.

On 7 October, the Advanced Materials business of Aditya Birla Chemicals signed an MoU with Organic Recycling Systems to set up a commercial recycling chain for composite waste.

An MoU sets out an intent to work together, so many details are still open.

Reports so far give no financial value, no size for the demonstration turbine and no date for installing it.
