HAL shares touched a day’s high of Rs 4,963.80 after the defence major proposed a 200% final dividend of Rs 10 per share.

The Maharatna defence PSU has told shareholders it plans to pay Rs 10 for every share they hold, which works out to double the stock’s face value of Rs 5.

Given HAL’s size and position in the BSE 100 index, this isn’t a small payout by any measure. Here’s what needs to happen before the money actually lands.

Shareholders still need to approve the proposal at the company’s 63rd Annual General Meeting, set for August 28, which will be held online through video conferencing.

HAL has fixed August 14 as the record date, meaning anyone holding shares in their account on that day qualifies for the dividend.

Once approved, the company gets up to 30 days to release the funds, so investors are likely looking at a payout sometime in the second half of September.

This isn’t HAL’s first dividend of the year either. The company already paid an interim dividend of Rs 35 per share in February 2026.

Looking further back, HAL paid a final dividend of Rs 15 per share in 2025, following an interim payout of Rs 25 per share, and before that, a final dividend of Rs 13 per share in 2024.

There’s another date worth watching too. HAL is set to announce its Q1 FY27 results on August 12, just tommorow ahead of the dividend record date, giving investors a fresh set of numbers to weigh alongside the payout news.

As of 13:57 pm, HAL was trading at Rs 4,879.20 on the NSE, down 0.99% for the day.
