Hero Electric and Bolt Jointly Build 50,000 Charging Stations

Hero Electric said on Wednesday it has partnered with the leading electric vehicle charging network BOLT to build 50,000 charging stations in the country over the next year. As part of the collaboration, BOLT chargers will be installed at Hero Electric’s more than 750 touchpoints in India, benefiting over 450,000 customers.

Around 2,000 Hero Electric riders will use free BOLT charging units set up at home. “Our mission is to enable carbon-free mobility and accelerate EV adoption in the country by building a robust charging ecosystem and retraining mechanisms to provide an enhanced EV riding experience. We are delighted that this collaboration will expand our efforts to achieve the established target effort,” Hero Electric CEO Sohinder Gill said.

He added that the partnership would benefit the entire industry and enable electric two-wheeler riders to access charging stations in India easily. “This partnership will help create a seamless charging experience for tens of thousands of Hero Electric customers. They can use the existing Hero Electric app and website to discover, book and pay.

Jyotiranjan Harichandan, the co-founder of BOLT, said: “With the advent of ‘charging on demand’, range anxiety will be a thing of the past as we move towards installing over 1 million charging points in the next two years. As part of the collaboration, the BOLT charging network will be used by Hero Electric’s corporate partners and EV customers, significantly curbing range anxiety.

Additionally, BOLT will be integrated into the Hero Electric app and website, providing a one-stop solution for locating charging stations, booking slots, and paying. After installing a BOLT charging station, individuals can choose a private/public operating model for their charging station and determine the price based on the current commercial/electric vehicle electricity price.

Additionally, a subscription-based program will be announced for Hero Electric riders to facilitate their use. The BOLT charging network is hardware agnostic and can be integrated with any charging solution provider in the country.
