India, Belgium and Luxembourg Look to Strengthen Trade Ties

India
The meeting focused on improving business opportunities, addressing trade related concerns.

India, Belgium and Luxembourg are looking to expand trade and investment cooperation across sectors such as fintech, clean energy, aerospace and advanced technology.

The discussions took place during the 19th India Belgium Luxembourg Economic Union (BLEU) Joint Economic Commission meeting held in Luxembourg on 29 October.

The meeting focused on improving business opportunities, addressing trade related concerns and making it easier for companies to invest and work together across the three countries.

The discussions covered several important areas, including financial services, fintech, renewable energy, clean technology, logistics, healthcare and digital transformation.

The countries also discussed opportunities in ports and air connectivity, information and communication technology, life sciences, Ayurveda, traditional medicine and agro food processing.

In addition, the three sides agreed to explore stronger cooperation in aerospace, research, innovation, higher education and skill development. These areas could create opportunities for technology sharing, research partnerships and business expansion.

India’s Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal also met business leaders from Luxembourg after the meeting. He highlighted India’s investment potential and encouraged companies to explore long term investments and technology partnerships with Indian businesses.

He pointed to opportunities in advanced manufacturing, financial services, logistics, clean energy, healthcare and digital technologies. He also encouraged Luxembourg companies to partner with Indian firms and become part of global supply chains.

Stronger economic ties with Belgium and Luxembourg could help Indian businesses access European markets, attract foreign investment and develop new technology partnerships.

However, the meeting has not resulted in any specific investment commitments or a new trade agreement. The actual benefits will depend on how these discussions develop into business partnerships and concrete projects.
