India and Brazil aim to boost trade to $20 billion over the next five years, up from the current $13 billion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said after a bilateral meeting with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit 2025.
The two leaders signed six agreements to deepen cooperation across various sectors, including energy, agriculture, technology, and digital transformation. Modi highlighted the goal of doubling trade and strengthening ties across all areas, including counter-terrorism and renewable energy.
Key Agreements Signed:
- Cooperation in combating international terrorism and transnational organised crime
- Exchange and mutual protection of classified information
- Sharing large-scale digital solutions for digital transformation
- Collaboration in renewable energy
- Agricultural research partnership between EMBRAPA (Brazil) and ICAR (India)
- Intellectual Property Cooperation between DPIIT (India) and MDIC (Brazil)
PM Modi also emphasised making India-Brazil ties as vibrant as Brazil’s carnival. He called for easing visa rules and promoting people-to-people exchange, especially for tourists, students, athletes, and business professionals.
