India and Namibia have agreed to strengthen ties in health and entrepreneurship during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the African nation on 9th July. PM Modi and Namibian President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah signed two MoUsβone to set up an Entrepreneurship Development Centre in Namibia. Another was for cooperation in health and medicine.
Namibia also became the first country to adopt India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) technology through a licensing agreement.
In addition, Namibia agreed to join the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI) and the Global Biofuels Alliance.
The two leaders discussed global issues, including terrorism. They committed to amplifying the voice of the Global South. PM Modi stated that India would expand its development cooperation through capacity building and support for manufacturing facilities. This includes Quick Impact Projects in areas such as agriculture, IT, healthcare, education, cybersecurity, women’s empowerment, and child welfare.
He also thanked Namibia for its role in the cheetah reintroduction project and invited the country to join the International Big Cat Alliance. “India and Namibia have a powerful story of cooperation, conservation, and compassion,” Modi said while addressing Namibia’s Parliament.
