India is on track to add more than 100 Global Capability Centres (GCCs) in 2026, despite ongoing geopolitical tensions and uncertainty across global markets.
More than 60 GCCs were established in India during the first six months of the year, with the number of companies setting up such centres rising around 20% from the same period last year.
The strong pace of expansion shows that global companies continue to see India as an important base for technology, research, engineering and other high-value functions. According to data sourced by The Economic Times from GCC and IT advisory firms, the new centres established this year could generate around $2 billion in annual revenue.
India’s overall GCC industry is also expected to grow significantly. Revenue from GCCs is projected to increase from around $98 billion in FY26 to nearly $108 billion in the current financial year. This comes despite concerns around the impact of the West Asia conflict, global trade uncertainty and changing business conditions.
GCCs have increasingly moved beyond their traditional role as low-cost support centres. Many global companies are now using their Indian operations for artificial intelligence, product development, engineering, research and innovation. This shift is helping India become a more important part of global technology and business operations.
The expansion is also supported by India’s large pool of technology professionals and relatively strong digital infrastructure. Companies are increasingly looking at Indian centres not only to reduce costs but also to access specialised talent and build products for global markets.
However, the rapid growth also brings challenges. The availability of highly skilled professionals, particularly in areas such as AI, advanced engineering and specialised technology, could become a major constraint as more companies establish centres.
India’s GCC sector has remained resilient even as global companies reassess their international operations because of geopolitical and economic uncertainty. The expected addition of more than 100 centres in 2026 suggests that multinational companies continue to view India as a long-term strategic location for technology and innovation.
