On 2nd June, PM Narendra Modi met Paraguayan President Santiago Peña Palacios in New Delhi to discuss India-Paraguay ties. He called both countries integral to the Global South.
Modi highlighted common challenges like terrorism, cybercrime, drug trafficking, and organised crime, urging stronger cooperation between the two nations.
He said India and Paraguay share similar hopes and challenges. They can learn from each other’s experiences to tackle global issues.
President Palacios is on a three-day state visit to India from 2nd to 4th June. He was welcomed with a Guard of Honour at Palam Air Force Station.
Modi called the visit “historic,” noting it’s only the second time a Paraguayan President has visited India. Palacios is set to visit Mumbai as well.
Modi said the two nations can boost ties in digital tech, critical minerals, energy, agriculture, defence, health, railways, and space.
He added that India helped Paraguay during the COVID-19 crisis. He expressed hope that this visit would deepen India-Latin America cooperation and mutual trust.
