India aims to boost natural gas availability by 2025-26 through increased imports from Qatar and other sources, targeting affordable access for households and industries.
Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri stated that with over 3 crore LPG connections, the focus is now on natural gas, which is 20% cheaper for households. He emphasised its importance for industries like power and cement, targeting 15% gas penetration by 2030 through new contracts and infrastructure expansion.
The government is also accelerating biofuel adoption, aiming for 20% usage by 2026, ahead of earlier projections.
At India Energy Week (IEW), India will hold bilateral talks with energy ministers and CEOs and conduct the 10th round of oil and gas block bidding under the Open Acreage Licensing Policy (OALP).
Puri stressed the need for energy availability amid global challenges, noting that Europe still sources 25% of its energy from Russia. He welcomed the US President’s push for lower energy prices, calling it positive for India.
IEW 2025 will span 28,000 square metres with 10 country pavilions and eight thematic zones. The event will feature 105 conference sessions, over 70,000 delegates, and participation from 700-plus exhibitors, reflecting India’s growing global energy role.
