On Friday, Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Union Railways Minister, informed the Rajya Sabha that nearly 1,253 Railway stations across the country would be revamped under Adarsh Scheme by 2022-23. Launched in 2019, the Adarsh station scheme of the Ministry of Railways aims to upgrade the suburban stations of India to ideal (Adarsh) stations. Under the scheme, the selection of railway stations is based on the identified need for up-gradation of amenities.

Apart from the Adarsh station scheme, a dedicated policy has been made for the development of stations under the Station Redevelopment Programme, under which IRSDC (Indian Railway Stations Development Corporation Limited) is primarily entrusted for undertaking the techno-economic feasibility based on which stations are planned to be taken up for redevelopment in phases.
The minister made this announcement in a written reply to a query of BJP MP Narhari Amin. The Monsoon session of Parliament commenced on July 18 and is likely to continue till August 13.
