India’s energy ties with the United States are deepening rapidly, with crude oil imports from the US projected to surge by over 150% year-over-year in FY26, according to sources.
In Q1 FY26 alone, India’s crude imports from the US jumped 114% to $3.7 billion, compared to $1.73 billion in the same period last year. The share of US crude in India’s import basket also rose sharply, increasing from 3% to 8% in July FY26.
Between January and June 2025, India imported an average of 0.271 million barrels per day (mb/day) of crude from the US, up from 0.18 mb/day during the same period in 2024.
Liquefied natural gas (LNG) trade is also expanding, with India’s LNG imports from the US doubling from $1.4 billion in FY24 to $2.4 billion in FY25, underscoring the strengthening energy partnership between New Delhi and Washington.
