IndusInd Bank has tied up with Navi UPI to strengthen the technology that powers everyday digital payments in the country.

The partnership was announced at the Global Fintech Fest 2026 in Mumbai. At the heart of this deal is a new UPI payment switch.

In simple terms, a payment switch is the system that processes and routes transactions when someone makes a UPI payment.

Adding a new one means Navi UPI will now have more than one technology stack to rely on, which should make its systems more resilient if something goes wrong with one part of the network.

The rollout won’t happen all at once. IndusInd Bank and Navi UPI plan to introduce this new switch in phases, starting with a mix of Android and iOS devices, before making it available to all Navi UPI users over the coming days.

Rajiv Naresh, MD and CEO of Navi Limited, said the partnership adds an important layer to the company’s UPI capabilities, with the goal of building a more reliable and consistent experience for customers.

Ganesh Sankaran, Executive Director at IndusInd Bank, called it a milestone in building resilient digital payment systems, adding that strong infrastructure sits behind every successful digital transaction, even if customers rarely think about it.

This move fits into a bigger pattern for both companies. IndusInd Bank has been pushing its Digital 2.0 strategy to serve customers across multiple channels, and currently serves around 42 million customers as of June this year.

Navi, on the other hand, runs a broader suite of financial services beyond UPI, including loans, insurance and mutual funds, all aimed at giving customers one place to manage their finances.

For now, the partnership stays focused on the technology side of things rather than launching any new customer facing product. The real test will come once the new switch is fully live and being used at scale.
