Jindal Stainless Adds 10 Electric Trucks to Cut Emissions

Jindal Stainless deployed 10 electric trucks to transport finished goods, marking its first use of EVs for freight movement.

The trucks will run between the Jajpur plant and the cities of Kharagpur and Kolkata.

Jindal Stainless Limited told the exchanges about the rollout in a filing and called it one step in a phased shift to electric and alternative-fuel vehicles.

Electric is only one piece. The steelmaker already runs 80 LNG trucks that carry finished goods from Jajpur and Hisar to western India.

It has also started using CNG trucks to bring imported cargo from Dhamra to Jajpur, and 60 CNG buses now take employees to work at Hisar and Jajpur. LNG and CNG are both natural gas fuels.

More are coming. The company plans to add vehicles in stages, on routes where they suit the operation.

Jindal Stainless has put numbers on the savings. It assumes about 8,000 to 9,000 tonnes of cargo a month and roughly 240,000 km of truck travel.

On that basis, it estimates the electric, CNG and LNG mix will cut about 71 tonnes of carbon dioxide a month, around 26% less than diesel trucks under normal conditions.

Managing Director Abhyuday Jindal said responsible manufacturing “must extend beyond our plants” and cover how products travel to customers.

He called the electric trucks an important milestone in cutting logistics emissions. Emissions are not only a transport matter for the company.

At its plants, Jindal Stainless makes steel in electric arc furnaces, which it says lowers greenhouse gas emissions and lets it recycle scrap.

Sources reported on the filing, said the trucks sit within a wider environmental plan covering energy efficiency, more renewable power and reuse of resources.

Founded in 1970, Jindal Stainless reported a turnover of Rs 42,955 crore in FY26. It runs 16 manufacturing and processing facilities in India and abroad, including in Spain and Indonesia, and can melt 4.2 million tonnes of steel a year.
