According to the industry authority, the satellite division of Reliance Jio Infocomm has received a Letter of Intent (LoI) for satellite communications services from the telecom sector.

Authorities said the letter was sent to Jio Satellite Communications Ltd (JSCL) on Monday. Meanwhile, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has awarded the company a letter of intent for Global Mobile Personal Satellite Communications (GMPCS) services.

Companies can establish and operate GMPCS services in licensed service areas. The license is valid for 20 years (from the date of the grant after fulfilling the stated conditions). Products under GMPCS include voice and data services delivered via satellite. These mobile satellite networks can operate with Low Earth Orbit (LEO), Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) and Geostationary (GEO) satellites.

On February 14, Mukesh Ambani’s conglomerate announced a joint venture to provide satellite-based broadband services across India and a partnership with billionaire Elon Musk in partnership SpaceX competes with Sunil Mittal’s OneWeb to deliver reliable, high-speed internet anywhere. Jio Platforms has announced a joint venture with Luxembourg-based SES to provide satellite-based broadband services in India.
