Juniper Green Energy Wins 230 MW FDRE Project from SECI

Juniper Green Energy Ltd
The award strengthens the company's renewable energy portfolio and adds to its pipeline of projects.

Shares of Juniper Green Energy Ltd opened green but fell 2% following the market on 17 August despite the company announcing that it has won a 230 MW FDRE (Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy) project from SECI (Solar Energy Corporation of India).

The award strengthens the company’s renewable energy portfolio and adds to its pipeline of projects designed to provide reliable power beyond intermittent solar and wind generation.

The project was awarded through SECI’s competitive bidding process for FDRE power. Under this model, renewable energy is combined with technologies such as battery energy storage systems, allowing electricity to be supplied according to scheduled demand rather than only when renewable resources are available.

The FDRE project is significant because India’s renewable energy expansion is increasingly shifting towards round-the-clock and dispatchable power. While solar and wind capacity is growing rapidly, their variable generation creates challenges for grid stability. Energy storage and hybrid renewable projects can help address this issue.

For Juniper Green Energy, the latest win expands its presence in India’s rapidly developing renewable energy market. The company has been building a portfolio across solar, wind and hybrid renewable projects, with an increasing focus on projects that combine generation with storage.

SECI’s growing use of competitive auctions for FDRE capacity also reflects India’s broader effort to make renewable electricity more dependable for distribution companies and commercial consumers. Such projects can help reduce dependence on conventional power while supporting the country’s clean-energy targets.

The award could therefore provide Juniper Green Energy with greater long-term project visibility as demand rises for firm renewable power. Investors and industry participants will now track the project’s implementation timeline, capacity additions and the company’s ability to secure further renewable and storage contracts.

The development comes at a time when India’s renewable energy sector is seeing increased investment in battery storage, hybrid projects and dispatchable renewable power, making FDRE projects an increasingly important part of the country’s clean-energy transition.

At 12:37 pm, the shares of Juniper Green Energy were trading 2.80% lower at Rs 244.33 on the NSE.
