LIC Loses Rs 16,580 Crore in Five Adani Shares in Two Days

LIC has lost around Rs 16,580 crore.

In past sessions, Adani group stocks have nosedived much lower than crucial benchmark indices, leading to considerable losses to its retail and institutional investors. The Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) of India is one such domestic institutional investor (DII), which has a massive shareholding in Adani group stocks. In the previous two days, LIC has lost Rs 16,580 crore. Out of these Rs 16,580 crore losses, LIC lost Rs 6,232 crore in one Adani group stock Adani Total Gas, which has a 5.96% shareholding.

Adani Enterprises, LIC holds 4,81,74,654 shares, which is 4.23 per cent of the company’s total paid-up capital. In the previous two days, Adani Enterprises’ share price has dipped from Rs 3,442 to Rs 2,768.50 apiece levels on NSE. 

As per the shareholding pattern of Adani port for Q3FY23, LIC holds 19,75,26,194 company shares or a 9.14% stake in the company. Adani Port’s share price tumbled in the previous two days from Rs 761.20 to Rs 604.50 apiece levels, losing Rs 156.70 per share in two sessions. As LIC holds 19,75,26,194 Adani Port shares, the net loss to LIC in these two days stands at Rs 3,095 crore.

According to the shareholding of Adani Transmission for October to December 2022 quarter, LIC holds 4,06,76,207 shares or a 3.65 per cent stake in the company. In the last two days, Adani Transmission’s share price has tumbled from Rs 2,762.15 to Rs 2,014.20 apiece, losing Rs 747.95 per share in these two days. As LIC has 4,06,76,207 Adani Transmission shares, a net loss of LIC in the last two days’ slump of Adani Transmission shares is around Rs 3,042 crore.

As per the shareholding pattern of Adani Green Energy Ltd for the recently ended December 2022 quarter, LIC holds 2,03,09,080 shares or 1.28% stake in the company. Adani Green’s share price has dipped Rs 430.55 apiece in the last two days, leading to a near Rs 875 crore loss in the previous two straight sessions.

As per the shareholding pattern of Adani Total Gas for the recently ended December 2022 quarter, LIC holds 6,55,88,170 shares or a 5.96% stake in the company. Adani Green’s share price has dipped Rs 963.75 apiece in the last two days, leading to a near Rs 6,323 crore loss in the previous two straight sessions.

So, adding all these losses that LIC incurred in the last two sessions, LIC has lost around Rs 16,580 crore due to a heavy sell-off in the five Adani, as mentioned earlier, group stocks.
