L&T Construction Bags India’s Longest River Bridge Contract

L&T’s infrastructure construction arm, L&T Construction has bagged a contract for building India’s longest river bridge of 19 km along with NH 127-B across the Brahmaputra river, connecting Dhubri, Assam to Phulbari, Meghalaya.
The river bridge made by the infrastructure major would improve the connectivity of North Eastern states with the rest of the country and reduce the distance between Assam and Meghalaya by 250 km.
“This is an extremely challenging project, and we thank our client, National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation for reposing confidence in our capability to build a such a defining piece of infrastructure,” said S V Desai, Whole-Time Director & Senior Executive Vice President (Civil Infrastructure), Larsen & Toubro.
Desai added that it will not only be an important passage to easily access North Eastern international borders but will also play a pivotal role in trade and commerce in the region. The change in trade and commerce of the region will accelerate the development of North Eastern States especially for Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and the Barak Valley, he said.
Recently, L&T Construction has also won a mega-contract from National High-Speed Rail Corp. worth more than Rs 7,000 crore for constructing an 87.57 km long stretch of Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail also known as the bullet train project.
