The package includes crop loss aid, land restoration, and housing relief.

Maharashtra has announced a massive Rs 31,000 crore relief package for farmers hit by recent floods. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said this on Monday. The heavy rains and flooding caused extensive damage across 29 districts and 253 talukas. Moreover, they destroyed crops over 65–68 lakh hectares.

Crops such as cotton, soybeans, onions, maize, bajra, pulses, oranges, and pomegranates were among the worst affected. The package covers crop loss compensation, restoration of eroded land, ex gratia payments, medical aid, and relief for house damage.

Of the total package, Rs 17,675 crore will go towards crop compensation. Farmers will also receive Rs 30,000 per damaged well and Rs 10,000 per hectare support for the upcoming Rabi season. For livestock loss, compensation has been set at Rs 32,000 per animal.

Fadnavis said that while sowing began across 1.43 lakh hectares this monsoon, floods damaged crops over 68 lakh hectares. Additionally, they eroded soil across 60,000 hectares. Furthermore, 45 lakh insured farmers will get Rs 17,000 per hectare under crop insurance claims.

The Opposition had earlier urged the state to declare a β€œwet drought.” Continuous rainfall in September led to severe flooding in multiple regions, including Mumbai. Consequently, thousands were displaced, and farmlands were devastated.
