The Maharashtra government has extended the deadline for vehicle owners to install High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) to 15th August. Strict action will begin from 16th August for those who fail to comply.

This is the third extension for vehicles registered before 1st April 2019. The original deadline of 31st March was first pushed to the end of April, then to the end of June, and now to mid-August.

As per the transport department, out of 2.10 crore old vehicles in the state, only 23 lakh have been fitted with HSRPs in the last six months.

Authorities have clarified that enforcement squads will act against vehicles without HSRPs after 15th August. However, those with valid HSRP installation appointments booked before the deadline will be exempt from this requirement.

Three companies have been appointed to handle HSRP installation across the state. The process began in December 2024, with the initial deadline set for 31st March.
