Minus Zero has unveiled an end-to-end AI autopilot system designed specifically for Indian roads, successfully tested in Bengaluru to navigate around cattle, carts, and two-wheelers.
The system uses foundational AI models trained on unstructured data and operates without high-definition maps, relying mainly on cameras, a first for Indian road conditions.
Though advanced, the system is not fully driverless. CEO Gagandeep Reehal clarified that it falls under ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), which is similar to features like lane-keeping and cruise control, as India lacks regulations for driverless vehicles.
The autopilot is built on a full-stack AI platform with minimal hardware and can handle narrow, unmarked roads—something traditional ADAS systems struggle with.
Minus Zero was founded in 2020 by Reehal and Gursimran Kalra, raised $1.8 million in funding, and introduced India’s first autonomous concept vehicle, zPod, in 2023.
The company plans phased releases of the autopilot system, is already working with major OEMs, and aims to be production-ready in the next two years.
