MongoDB employs 750+ people in India, including 110 local engineers building products for global customers.
India is no longer just a place to sell software for the US database company. Its staff work from Gurugram, Mumbai and Bengaluru, and the local engineering team started about 18 months ago.
Customers are a large part of the story too. MongoDB says 50 of India’s top 100 companies by market value use its software, along with more than 50 unicorns.

Real examples help. Zomato runs Nugget, its AI-based customer support platform, on MongoDB, and the platform handles around 15 million support operations.
Tata Neu, the app that brings together about 40 Tata brands, is built on it as well.
Chennai-based Intellect Design reported an 85% improvement in onboarding times after modernising its wealth-management platform.
Aamir Sait, area vice-president for India, said startups usually adopt new technology faster and take more risks than older firms.
He also said MongoDB can run in a company’s own data centre or on several cloud providers.
That choice helps banks, which often face rules on where customer data must be stored.
In September, MongoDB launched Atlas Agent Engine in public preview, a tool that helps businesses run AI assistants in real operations with tighter controls.
Indian engineers own key parts of it, and they also worked on MongoDB 9.0, the latest version of its core software.
MongoDB has also promised to train 2 million people in India in data and AI skills by 2030, partly through university partnerships.
The plan is straightforward: sell to Indian companies, build with Indian engineers and train more of them.
