NCLT Puts Byju’s Bidding Process on Hold Until Next Hearing

NCLT
The latest development follows objections raised by founders Byju Raveendran and Riju Ravindran.

The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) has directed the resolution professional of Think & Learn Pvt. Ltd., the parent company of Byju’s, to pause the insolvency bidding process until the next hearing on August 31, 2026.

The interim relief comes after the company’s founders challenged the admission of a major creditor’s claim in the ongoing insolvency proceedings.

The tribunal instructed the resolution professional not to proceed with Form G, the document used to invite expressions of interest from potential buyers. This means the process of identifying and shortlisting prospective bidders will remain on hold until the legal dispute is heard.

The latest development follows objections raised by founders Byju Raveendran and Riju Ravindran over the admission of a Rs 11,433 crore claim by US term loan lenders. The founders have argued that the claim should be reconsidered before the insolvency process moves ahead.

Byju’s has been facing financial and legal challenges for more than two years, including disputes with lenders, delayed financial filings, and multiple insolvency proceedings. The company, once India’s most valuable edtech startup, is now undergoing a court-supervised resolution process to address its mounting liabilities.

The NCLT’s decision provides temporary relief to the founders and delays the search for a buyer. The next hearing, scheduled for August 31, is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Byju’s insolvency proceedings and determining the fate of one of India’s most prominent edtech companies.
