Global food and Beverages Multinational Nestle SA plans to invest Rs 5,000 crore in India by the next three and a half years, i.e. approximately in 2025, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mark Schneider said. The investment will peak on capital expenditure, including building plants and expanding the corporate product portfolio. Currently, Nestle functions nine plants in India and is looking forward to new locations for more manufacturing units building.
Discussing the investment plans of the Indian market in a media round table, he said, โ€œThe plan links with the Rs 8,000 crore over the past 60 years after it started to manufacture in this country,โ€ he said. Nestle has been present in India for over 110 years. Schneider said that this investment would include development work, brand building, etc. In 2020, the company announced an investment of Rs 2,600 crore to supplement its capacities and for its factory in Sanand, Gujarat.
Indiaโ€™s Nestlรฉ Chairman and Managing Director Suresh Narayanan said that fast-tracking the companyโ€™s core business would be a focus area. The blueprint has three pivots, one of which continues the robust growth momentum, the company proceeded in the last 22 quarters,โ€ Narayanan said. Secondly, it needs to be done sustainably. Nestle has taken โ€œsignificant stepsโ€ in that direction, he said. โ€œThirdly, the part is to leverage growth opportunities, despite plant-based proteins, healthy ageing, vigorous snacking, and leveraging the Indian grains into products for the company.โ€
Schneider on Nestle Indiaโ€™s business says, โ€œIt had maintained steadiness at very high levelsโ€ for 22 quarters, which remained โ€œoutstandingโ€. When he was asked about the investment and volume details segment-wise, Narayanan said: โ€œIt will be secular across categories.โ€
In 2021, Nestle Indiaโ€™s revenues rose to Rs 14,709.41 crore. Lastly, it has invested around Rs 700 crore in opening its plant in Sanand to manufacture the Maggi noodle.
