Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Netflix has signed a new global, multi-year agreement with Sony Pictures Entertainment to stream the studio’s films worldwide after their theatrical release. The companies said this on 15th January.

Under the deal, Netflix will become the exclusive streaming platform for Sony Pictures’ films for the first 18 months following their cinema run and video-on-demand window. After this period, the movie will move to Disney.

The rollout will happen gradually from later this year, as regional rights expire. Full global availability is expected by early 2029.

Upcoming Sony titles set to stream on Netflix include β€œSpider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse,” Nintendo’s live-action β€œThe Legend of Zelda,” β€œThe Nightingale” starring Dakota and Elle Fanning, and four Beatles films directed by Sam Mendes.

The agreement strengthens Netflix’s content pipeline as it increasingly relies on licensed studio films. It also builds on existing Sony deals in markets such as the US, Germany, and Southeast Asia.

For Sony, the partnership secures a global streaming home for its theatrical slate. This comes as studios reassess distribution strategies amid changing viewing habits.

Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
