A new 31.78 km rail line connecting Sircilla, Vemulawada and Kothapalli in Telangana has moved closer to construction this week.

This new stretch forms part of a larger railway project called the Manoharabad-Kothapalli section, which falls under the Hyderabad Division of South Central Railway.

The project has now moved a step closer to actually being built. Here’s what triggered the update. South Central Railway’s Construction Organisation has invited bids to build this new line, and the contract carries an estimated value of Rs 749.29 crore.

According to the tender documents, bidding opened on 8 September 2026 and will stay open until 18 November 2026. Once a contractor is selected and the contract is formally awarded, they will have 30 months to finish the construction work.

Right now, Sircilla, Vemulawada and Kothapalli aren’t connected by this particular rail route. Once built, the new section will bring all three towns onto the same broad-gauge line, making travel between them faster and more direct.

Beyond just connecting these three places, the project is expected to improve overall rail connectivity across the region.

It should make it easier for people and goods to move between towns in the Sircilla area, giving local residents and businesses another reliable transport option.

This fits into a wider push by Indian Railways to extend rail access to parts of Telangana that currently have limited connectivity. This isn’t an isolated development either.

Around the same time, Indian Railways has also been working on other regional projects, including additional lines on the Vadodara-Ratlam route and new station infrastructure at Nagercoil in Tamil Nadu, both part of a broader effort to strengthen rail networks across different states.
