New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said on Wednesday the country would fully reopen its international borders from 11.59 pm. On July 31st, cruise ships are also welcome to return to their local ports on the same day.
At the end of July, the border opening was two months earlier than the government’s previous timeline, meaning tourists who need a visa can now come to New Zealand. Speaking at the Business NZ luncheon in Auckland, Ardern said opening the border would help alleviate urgent skills shortages, open up tourism and make the environment safer for migrants.
