Diesel Prices Slightly Decrease by 10 Paise in Metros; Petrol Prices Remain Unaltered


Monday’s domestic diesel rates went down till 10 paise in all metros, whereas petrol prices remained the same. Diesel has observed price drop for a 4-days-in-a-row period. With the latest prices, diesel at present retails at Rs 70.71 per litre in the national capital but petrol costs Rs 81.06 per litre. There was a reduction in diesel rates as much as 14 paise in metros bringing per litre price to Rs70.80. This reduction was done by OMCs on Sunday. At present, one litre of diesel costs Rs 74.23 in Kolkata.

The new amounts across cities are as follows: Mumbai – Rs 77.12 per litre for diesel, Rs 87.74 for petrol, auto fuels at Rs 82.59. Kolkata – Rs 74.23 per litre for both petrol and diesel. Chennai – Rs76.18 for Diesel, slightly lessening at 9 paise for one litre. Bengaluru – Auto fuels – Rs 83.69 for petrol and Rs 74.89 for diesel. Depending on local taxes and VAT per region, diesel prices were cut 17 times this month bringing the retail cost down by Rs 2.6 across all metros. Petrol, meanwhile, saw a price decrease just seven times in September.

Bharat Petroleum Corporation, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation and Indian Oil Corporation are the three major oil marketing companies in India. The state-run oil marketing companies review petrol and diesel rates daily and make necessary changes to align the petroleum prices with the global benchmark and dollar-rupee exchange rate.
