Rajya Sabha Passes Bills to Reduce Salary, Allowances of MPs, Ministers by 30%


On Friday, bills regarding salary reduction, Members Of Parliament allowances, and Minister by 30% was passed with the clear majority in the Rajya Sabha

Initially, Union Ministers G Kishan Reddy and Pralhad Joshi had shifted the Salaries and Allowances of Ministers (Amendment) Bill, 2020 and the Salary, Allowances and Pension of Members of Parliament (Amendment) Bill, 2020 in the Rajya Sabha.

This process of moving the Bill was done on behalf of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, as revealed by the Minister of State Home Affairs in the Rajya Sabha.

There was thorough support for the Bill by Congress MPs, Biju Janata Dal (BJD), and different parties. The MPLADS Funds were instructed to the Centre to undergo restoration at the earliest.

Information provided by the MPs mentioned that the MPLADS Funds are for facilitating the public in their constituencies, especially of major help at present with COVID-19’s increasing spread.

Demands were made by AIADMK MP A Vijayakumar and BJD MP Prasanna Acharya for the government to release their arrears of the MPLADS funds for previous years.

The Monsoon session of the Parliament which started on Monday is slated to finalize on October 1.
