Reliance Ind. Builds, ‘Made in India’ 5G Mobile Network

Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani said the company has created a ‘Made in India’ 5G mobile network technology solution from the ground up which would lay the foundation stones for the company towards the strategy to create a connected digital ecosystem, e-commerce, spanning telecom, retail and enterprise solutions in India and outside.
Ambani said at the company’s 43rd, and first-ever virtual annual general meeting, held on Wednesday, “Once Jio’s 5G solution is proven at India-scale, Jio Platforms would be well-positioned to be an exporter of 5G solutions to other telecom operators globally.” He also added, “As India is standing at the doorsteps of the 5G era, we should accelerate the migration of 350 million Indians, who currently use a 2G feature phone to an affordable smartphone.”
Jio, the digital and telecom arm of Reliance Ind. will be ready to roll out 5G services as soon as spectrum is made available which would eliminate the need for the company to depend on third-party vendors. Mike Pompeo, US Secretary of State, praised Jio for a ‘clean network’ while being critical on the infrastructure of Huawei’s 5G because of threats to national security, privacy, economic security, intellectual and human rights.
He also announced that the company will induct global partners for its retail business in the next few quarters, and said the company has successfully accelerated the launch of JioMart grocery model with Kirana partners in 200 cities including pharmaceuticals, healthcare, fashion and electronics.
