The government data showed on Monday that the wholesale price has unexpectedly increased for the first time in 18 months, posted an annual gain of 0.34 percent, driven up by higher costs for food and manufactured items.
According to the data released by commerce and industry ministry on Monday, the primary articles index increased 2.34% and manufactured product index rose 0.71% whereas fuels inflation fell 4.83%.
As per the data released last week, there has seen a 5.39% increase in retail inflation in April from 4.83% in March.
