NHAI plans to repair a 10.5 km stretch of the Berhampore Bypass on NH-12 in West Bengal, with the Rs 85.59 crore project due in six months.
The stretch in question runs between kilometre marker 191.700 and 202.500 on the Berhampore to Farakka section of the highway.
This bypass sees regular traffic connecting the two towns, and the rehabilitation work aims to bring the road back to a better, more usable condition for commuters and freight traffic alike. One detail that stands out here is how the project is being funded.
The work will be carried out at the risk and cost of the defaulting BOT concessionaire, meaning the original build-operate-transfer contractor responsible for maintaining this stretch failed to meet its obligations, and the cost of fixing the road now falls on that party rather than the exchequer.
The new contractor NHAI brings in will follow the project’s technical specifications and bill of quantities, working under the direction of NHAI and its appointed engineer.
To find a contractor, NHAI has floated a tender open to firms with relevant highway construction experience.
Bidders need an average annual turnover of βΉ2,567.75 lakh over the past three years, along with a track record that includes either one similar project worth βΉ6,847.33 lakh, two projects worth βΉ4,279.58 lakh each, or three projects worth βΉ3,423.67 lakh each, all completed within the last seven years.
The tender window opened on September 3 and will remain open until October 21, with bids due online by 12 noon that day and set to be opened on October 22.
Interested bidders can attend a pre-bid meeting scheduled for September 28 at NHAI’s regional office in Kolkata to get their questions answered before submitting.
