Nothing’s design-focused sub-brand, CMF, is making India its global launchpad. The London-based consumer tech company announced that CMF will operate as an independent subsidiary with its headquarters in India, serving as the hub for operations, research and development, and manufacturing.
A new manufacturing joint venture with Indian electronics manufacturer Optiemus Infracom backs this expansion. The partnership aims to turn India into a global production and export hub for Nothing and CMF products. Over $100 million in investment is planned over the next three years. Additionally, more than 1,800 jobs are expected to be created. So far, Nothing has invested over $200 million in India.
CMF is set on becoming India’s first truly global consumer technology brand. They aim to produce high-quality products “made from India, for the world,” while strengthening India’s position as a global electronics manufacturing hub.
Nothing CEO Carl Pei said CMF is uniquely positioned to become India’s first global smartphone brand. He also highlighted India’s key role in shaping the future of the worldwide smartphone industry.
Optiemus Executive Chairman Ashok Gupta stated that the partnership will enhance world-class manufacturing capabilities. It will empower the development of export-ready products and showcase India’s innovation and talent to the world.
Nothing recently raised $200 million in a Series C funding round, bringing its valuation to $1.3 billion.
