Nvidia is reportedly developing a new generation of its Nemotron AI models, with the largest version expected to feature at least 1 trillion parameters.

The move marks a bigger push by the chipmaker into AI software and models as it looks to compete with leading open-source AI systems. The upcoming model family, called Nemotron 4, is still under development. According to a report by The Information, Nvidia could release the most advanced version as early as late 2026, although the company has not officially confirmed the reported specifications or launch timeline.

In simple terms, parameters are the values an AI model learns during training. A higher parameter count can allow a model to handle more complex patterns and tasks, although size alone does not guarantee better performance.

Nvidia has already been building a broader ecosystem around Nemotron. Its existing models are designed for applications such as AI agents, reasoning, coding and other enterprise tasks. The company provides developers with model weights, training resources and tools through its open-model platform.

The latest development also comes shortly after Nvidia introduced Nemotron 3.5 Lightning, a 30-billion-parameter open model designed for agentic AI tasks. These systems can perform multi-step activities such as coding, research and security-related work with limited human intervention.

Nvidia’s growing focus on AI models is strategically important. The company remains the dominant supplier of GPUs used to train and operate advanced AI systems, but developing its own models could help it influence how those chips and related software are used.

The company is also supporting wider open-model development through collaborations with AI researchers and technology companies. Nvidia’s Nemotron strategy could help the company expand beyond hardware and strengthen its presence across the broader AI ecosystem.
